The Nairobi-based founder of Versa Luxe Ltd. has built a cross-border advisory business around trusted relationships, careful due diligence and guiding investors from opportunity discovery through execution.
Long before Joy Mayunga began connecting international investors with opportunities across Africa, she was already learning how to move between countries, cultures and business environments.
Born in Kenya to a Ghanaian father and Tanzanian mother, Mayunga spent her childhood moving between Kenya, Ghana and Tanzania. Her parents had relocated to Kenya during the 1980s, making her part of a second generation shaped by migration, entrepreneurship and regional connections.
That multicultural upbringing would eventually become one of her greatest professional strengths.
“My childhood has been in between Kenya, Ghana and Tanzania,” Mayunga said. “My versatility has been with me ever since. That’s why I’m able to maneuver globally and do so many things.”
Today, Mayunga is the founder and director of Versa Luxe Ltd., a Nairobi-headquartered boutique advisory firm that connects investors, family offices, businesses and strategic partners with opportunities across Africa and other international markets.
From Cross-Border Trade to Investment Advisory
Mayunga’s entrepreneurial journey began more than seven years ago through cross-border trade between East and West Africa.
Working across different markets taught her that successful international business depends on more than identifying a promising opportunity. Investors also need reliable relationships, trusted local partners and someone who understands how to navigate the realities of each market.
As her network expanded, Mayunga began working across strategic investments, private capital, real estate, hospitality, mining, infrastructure and international partnerships.
The foundation for Versa Luxe became clearer during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Mayunga, investors continued looking for opportunities but often lacked access to dependable local contacts, market knowledge and thorough due diligence.
That gap inspired her to build a company that could serve as a bridge between capital and opportunity.
“My focus is simple: connecting the right people to the right opportunities—with discretion, integrity and a long-term perspective,” she said.
Versa Luxe has now operated for approximately five years. Although the company is based in Nairobi, Mayunga said much of its clientele comes from outside Kenya.
“My clientele are investors from various parts of the world,” she said. “I work with people globally, especially high-end developers.”
Helping Investors Navigate African Markets
Interest in African markets continues to come from investors seeking opportunities in real estate, mining, infrastructure, technology and other developing sectors. Yet entering an unfamiliar market can present significant challenges.
Investors may struggle to identify credible opportunities, verify ownership, understand local processes or find partners capable of carrying a project from initial discussions to completion.
Versa Luxe positions itself as a trusted link within that process.
The company provides investment consultancy services and works with family offices, investors, developers and other strategic agents. It is also expanding its interest in technology, including blockchain-related opportunities.
“There are a lot of investors who are interested in tapping into the African market,” Mayunga said.
Her role frequently involves introducing investors to opportunities, coordinating with local partners and helping clients understand the markets they are entering. Due diligence remains central to that work.
Mayunga said Versa Luxe collaborates with a security team to support verification and due-diligence assignments for clients considering investments in Africa. This process is intended to help investors evaluate whether an opportunity, asset or potential partner is legitimate before committing capital.
Connecting Buyers With Global Property Opportunities
Luxury real estate is another major part of Versa Luxe’s advisory work.
Mayunga works with high-net-worth clients, developers and real estate professionals, particularly across Europe and the Middle East. The United Kingdom has become one of her strongest markets, where she says she has completed transactions with established agents and developers.
Before presenting a property to a client, Mayunga says she first seeks to verify that the property exists and that the opportunity is credible.
“Before I pitch anything to them, I have to do another due diligence and verify that the properties I have really exist,” she explained.
She describes her role as connecting the different sides of a transaction: the client, the developer and the professionals required to move the deal forward.
“I keep connecting the dots between the client and the developer,” Mayunga said. “I’ll travel first, and then my client will meet me there. We do a viewing, put in an offer and then we close.”
Her network includes real estate agents and developers in several international markets. Versa Luxe also works with developers seeking funding for their projects, connecting viable developments with potential investors and financing partners.
For Mayunga, the company’s Nairobi location is an advantage rather than a limitation.
“What makes us more unique is that we are based in Africa,” she said. “It intrigues a lot of people when you tell them that you’re based in Africa.”
International clients, she added, are often accustomed to working with concierge and advisory companies based in Europe, the Middle East or other established financial centers. Versa Luxe offers a different proposition: globally connected advisory services delivered from within Africa.
The Discreet World of Off-Market Assets
Beyond conventional property transactions, Versa Luxe assists clients seeking valuable assets that are not publicly advertised.
These off-market opportunities may include island resorts, luxury hotels, high-end jewelry, antiques and fine art. Such transactions typically require discretion because owners may not want an asset publicly listed or buyers may prefer to keep their interest confidential.
“We have high-end clients who do that discreetly,” Mayunga said. “We call them off-market assets because they are not put on the market.”
Versa Luxe works with partner companies and specialist contacts to help clients locate and evaluate these assets.
The firm’s value, Mayunga said, comes from understanding what a client needs and knowing which relationships can help fulfill that request. In this corner of the market, trust and discretion can be as important as the asset itself.
Guiding Mining Investors From Beginning to End
Mining is another area where Mayunga is developing Versa Luxe’s presence, with much of that work centered in Tanzania.
Her family connections, cultural familiarity and professional network give her greater flexibility in the Tanzanian market. The company assists investors interested in entering the mineral sector and helps them navigate opportunities from the early stages onward.
“What makes this unique is that we are able to guide them from the beginning to the end,” Mayunga said. “We don’t just leave them halfway once they’ve gotten a project.”
Her work in the sector also intersects with community development. Mayunga is involved with Tanzania Youth and Women in Mineral Industries, an organization supporting youth and women’s empowerment within the country’s mining industry.
That involvement reflects a broader dimension of her work: attracting investment while also recognizing the importance of participation and opportunity for communities connected to the industries being developed.
Relationships Before Transactions
Across real estate, mining, private capital and high-value assets, Mayunga’s business model is built around relationships.
International investors entering unfamiliar markets are not simply searching for deals. They are searching for people they can trust to verify information, make credible introductions and remain involved after an opportunity has been identified.
That is the role Mayunga wants Versa Luxe to occupy.
Her cross-cultural upbringing allows her to understand different ways of communicating and conducting business. Her years in cross-border trade taught her how local knowledge can determine whether an international transaction moves forward or falls apart.
While Versa Luxe operates within the luxury and private-investment space, Mayunga’s underlying philosophy is direct: identify the right opportunity, conduct the necessary due diligence and remain with the client throughout the process.
“I think we provide excellent services,” she said. “We are able to guide our clients from the beginning to the end.”
An African Firm With a Global Outlook
Mayunga’s story reflects a generation of African entrepreneurs building globally connected companies without abandoning their position on the continent.
From its headquarters in Nairobi, Versa Luxe works across borders and sectors, linking international capital with real estate, mining, technology, hospitality and strategic opportunities.
For Mayunga, that reach is grounded in the three countries that shaped her earliest years.
Her Ghanaian, Tanzanian and Kenyan identity gave her an instinctive understanding of versatility. She has turned that experience into a professional ability to cross markets, connect people and translate opportunity between regions.
“I’m able to maneuver globally,” she said.
Through Versa Luxe, Mayunga is demonstrating that an advisory company based in Africa can participate confidently in international investment conversations—and help ensure that Africa is represented not merely as a destination for capital, but as a source of expertise, relationships and leadership.
