Nikita Kering ends age debate for good with a clever reply

—

Award-winning Kenyan R&B and pop sensation Nikita Kering recently gave fans an unusually honest glimpse into her personal world.

Through an interactive Q&A session on her Instagram stories, the singer tackled ongoing rumours about her age and spoke openly about her mental well-being — allowing fans to see the woman behind the celebrated artist.

Putting age rumours to rest

Having achieved global acclaim early in her career, Nikita Kering has long faced speculation about her real age.

To put an end to the chatter, the singer chose a bold and unconventional response during the Q&A.

When a fan asked, “Are you really 23?”, she shared a photo of her national ID card — clearly showing her date of birth as 26 February 2002.

That means she is, in fact, 23 years old, directly addressing the question.

She paired the image with a laughing emoji and a short caption:

Speaking openly about mental health

The “Ex” hitmaker also used the session to encourage more openness and compassion among people.

When a fan asked how she was doing mentally, she didn’t hold back.

“Better every day ❤️ I wish more people asked. I wish we all checked up on each other fr a lot more ❤️”

Her candid response echoed her ongoing advocacy for mental health awareness and gender equality.

The person behind the persona

Nikita Kering’s musical journey began early, with her breakthrough coming in her teens — becoming the youngest AFRIMMA award winner at just 17.

Since then, she has bagged multiple AFRIMA honours, including Best Female Artist in Eastern Africa.

Yet despite her growing fame, fans still wonder what she’s like away from the limelight.

When one follower asked, “Who are you, apart from the Nikita we see on TV and in songs — the real you?”, she responded with a humble revelation.

She shared a photo of schoolwork filled with folders and diagrams, captioned:

“A big sister who helps with homework sometimes.”

Through her honesty, Nikita reminded fans that behind the stage lights and awards is a grounded young woman — one still learning, growing, and staying true to herself.
