Isiolo South Member of Parliament Tubi Bidu Mohamed was laid to rest on Thursday in accordance with Islamic traditions, in a ceremony attended by several political leaders, among them National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
Tubi passed away on Wednesday evening at the Nairobi Hospital.
During the funeral, Speaker Wetang’ula described him as a dedicated, honest, and diligent lawmaker who remained committed to serving his constituents even while battling illness.
“His last act in Parliament—seeking answers on insecurity in his constituency—demonstrated his steadfast devotion to his people. He envisioned a peaceful North Eastern region free from banditry and crime, a goal the National Assembly will continue to pursue in his memory,” Wetang’ula said.
He added, “On behalf of the National Assembly, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and the people of Isiolo South.”
Tubi was elected to Parliament on a Jubilee Party ticket during the August 2022 General Election.
In Parliament, he served on the Departmental Committee on Environment, Forestry and Mining, as well as the Public Petitions Committee.
Before entering national politics, Tubi had established a distinguished political and professional record at the county level.
He was the inaugural Speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly from 2013 to 2017 and was widely respected for his dedication to environmental and wildlife conservation. His two-decade career in conservation, spanning from 1993 to 2013, saw him rise through the ranks from acting game warden to senior positions in Isiolo, Narok, and Samburu counties.
Tubi is the fifth sitting legislator to pass away in the current Parliament. Earlier this year, Baringo Senator William Cheptumo died on February 15 while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.
Two days later, Malava MP Moses Malulu Injendi passed away at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi after a short illness. On April 30, Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were was shot dead by an assailant on a motorcycle near a traffic light outside the Nairobi Funeral Home—a killing police described as “targeted and premeditated.”
In 2023, Banisa MP Kullow Maalim Hassan also died in Nairobi while receiving treatment after being struck by a boda boda in a hit-and-run incident.
