Musician and entrepreneur Akothee has opened up about a terrifying medical emergency that left her hospitalised. Sharing her ordeal from a hospital bed, the popular artist recounted a night of excruciating pain that caused her to collapse in the bathroom.
According to Akothee, the episode began shortly after she watched a distressing video, which she believes triggered the near-fatal incident. She also expressed disappointment at what she described as a shocking lack of compassion from a nurse upon reaching the emergency room.
The incident unfolded early on a Sunday morning. Akothee said she was suffering from severe stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea — symptoms that began overnight and worsened by around 5:00 a.m.
“I was vomiting, diarrhoeaing, my stomach burning with acidity, and the pain was unbearable from midnight. I slept in the toilet,” she recounted.
She linked her sudden illness to watching a “disturbing video of the young girl in my home,” saying the shock from it nearly sent her into labour.
“I had been having severe stomach pain since I saw that disturbing video of the young girl in my home. I was so terrified that I literally went into labour,” she said.
As the pain became intolerable, Akothee said she rolled on the floor, trying to reach her children’s room while screaming — an act that finally woke them up. Alarmed, her children rushed her to the hospital through the emergency wing at around 6:00 a.m. But instead of immediate help, they were met with what she described as a dismissive nurse.
Akothee said her daughters pleaded with the nurse to attend to her, but the response was harsh and unfeeling.
“Instead of showing empathy, she raised her voice and told them, ‘Go outside and wait in front there,’” Akothee recalled.
Clutching her stomach in pain, she said she had to stand up for her children even as she struggled to sit in a wheelchair. Feeling mistreated, she told the nurse she would rather seek help elsewhere if she couldn’t be treated with respect. The nurse allegedly replied, “You are free to go,” before leaving them unattended.
Akothee’s daughter, Vesha, pleaded with the nurse, saying, “Mummy is already here and she’s in pain.” But the singer said the trust had already been broken.
The musician has since been treated and is now on medication, reporting that she is “feeling some relief.”
“Though my stomach is tired and very painful. May I get well to protect my children,” she wrote.
Akothee added that she had released the young girl who had been working as a nanny to return home. Concluding her message, she said she currently has no energy for anyone else and needs to focus on her recovery, adding, “That was too much for me.”
